Newbie Learning Curve

I have been a tent camper all of my adult life. Jesse may have had some experience with trailers but it was long before we started camping together. So when we purchased our motorhome we knew next to nothing. The salesman that we bought it from did a very thorough walk thru on the day we picked it up and we were confident we were ready to go. We did however take his advice and make an inaugural trip close by. We stopped at the gas station where the attendant filled until it clicked off. We saw that the gage didn't read full but the pump hose did click off a second time so the gage had to be off. Next step, fill the propane. This was important because cooking, heat, and the fridge all required propane. We did learn later that the fridge works off electric when we're plugged into a shoreline. We had no idea what kind of gas mileage to expect, but we weren't going far. We found a park just off the 101 in Lincoln City, Or. For just $50. a night we had full hook ups and just like that, we're RVers.

Jesse took just 15 minutes or so to get us all hooked up and then we started "testing" our equipment . The biggest failure of the day was our slide out. It just didn't. We pushed the button (more than once) to no avail. We checked all the fuses we could find, no problem there. I even pulled out the huge binder known as the owners Manuel. Oh well, we'll figure it out when we get home. Everything else seemed to work. We had lights, hot water, working refrigerator, TV, and even heat for the cold spring night. By morning the heat had quit working so we added that to the list. We figured out the kitchen and had a couple of meals. We enjoyed walks around the park and even got close enough to the lake for some pictures. Not a bad first trip.

It's been a long while since I was new at something and it hasn't all been fun. I do however look forward to each and every discovery (like setting the e-brake will allow the slide out to work). Camping and traveling in an RV became a thing to do when climbing up off the floor of the tent became a spectator event for the grandkids.

Being new isn't a bad thing, and the learning curve.......? BRING IT!
